Howard Legg - November 14, 2010
Howard W. Legg, 86, of Wood River, Neb., died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18 at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island. Dan Naranjo will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Howard was born March 17, 1924, at Holyoke, Colo., the son of John and Harriett (Shafer) Legg.
Survivors are his wife, Lorena; children and their spouses: Gerald and Sandy Legg of Dannebrog, John and Judy Legg of Grand Junction, Colo., Sandra and Bob Bolton of Aurora, Neb., and Melvin Legg of Doniphan; sisters: Vera Elliot of Bellflower, Calif., Edna Keiser of Enders, Neb., Elma Hind of Otis, Colo., and Wilma Parsons of Berthoud, Colo.
Other survivors are grandchildren: Shannon, Jacki, Tom, Kristy, Mike, Nicci, Matt, Kelly and Kim and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was welcomed into heaven by his parents; daughter-in-law, Jacquelyn Legg; brothers, John, Glen and Elmer Legg.
Howard was raised on a family farm near Holyoke where he received his education. He was united in marriage to Lorena Lorimer on Feb. 17, 1946. They lived in Wauneta, Neb., for many years before moving to Grand Island in 1967. They then moved to Osceola, returning to Grand Island in 1985.
Howard worked construction having owned and operated Legg Construction in Imperial, Neb., for many years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and his flowers. He was an avid photographer, having been published in state and national publications. His photo, “It Whispers,” was selected the winner of the J.B. Scotch photo contest, sending him and his wife on a trip to Scotland.
