Former Wauneta farmer and rancher John ‘Junior’ Kitt was posthumously inducted into the Nebraska Cooperative Council’s Cooperative Hall of Fame. He was among 10 individuals cited for their unwavering support of the cooperative system in Nebraska at the Nebraska Cooperative Council’s annual meeting. Present for the presentation were Margie Kitt Shackelford and daughters, Karrol Ramshur and Jerolyn Spady.
Jack Vetter, president of Vetter Health Services, presented the Prestigious Quality of Reputation Award to the staff of the Heritage of Wauneta Tuesday. Heritage was chosen from 31 Vetter Health Services nursing facilities throughout the midwest.
Seven Broncos were named to the GPAC all-conference rosters. Named in football to the offensive team was Sam Kramer. Eric Padilla was honorable mention. Named to the defensive team was Steven Humphrey. Named on the first team in volleyball was Sarah Harrison. Kayla Einspahr, Julie Long and Emily Humphrey were honorable mention.
Kelly and Carey Brunkhorst and Seth spent Tuesday to Saturday with Mick and Gwen Brunkhorst. Delpha Nordhausen was a Thanksgiving guest.
The Les Houser families celebrated Judd and Tish Houser’s wedding anniversary and Kenneth Houser’s birthday on Thanksgiving Day.
Wayne Wallace of Alhambra, Calif., was a houseguest of Bob and Sharon Walgren Nov. 12-21.
Keith Kitt and Donnaline Kitt went to Sargent where they were Thanksgiving guests of Kory and April Kitt.

Wyoming artist Nola Straub and Wauneta native was in Wauneta to instruct classes for Orpha Maris and for the Frenchman Valley Art Association. One of the classes was painting Christmas ornaments. While she attended a class in Omaha on the subject, one of her ornaments was selected in a contest to hang on the Christmas tree in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C.
Thanksgiving Day dinner guests of Rhonda and Bill Bischoff were Mr. and Mrs. Dale Bischoff, Dave Kerchal, Della Merrill and Elsie Kerchal.
Seventy-five members of the Kitt families held their third reunion on Thanksgiving Day at the Masonic Hall. Hosts were Ervin and Joan Kitt, Tom and Candy Henning, Denise and Kevin Janicek and daughter, Keenan and Tina Kitt and children, Paul and Elnora Kitt and Kent Kitt.
Thanksgiving dinner guests of Ramona Nordhausen were Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Pfeiffer and children, Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Klima and Matthew, Opal Kerchal and Sophia Nord-hausen.
Thanksgiving dinner and supper guests of Lois and Rich Greeley were Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Denker and Lynn, Mr. and Mrs. Don Polly and children, Mr. and Mrs. Brian O’Neil, Rochelle Greeley and Mr. and Mrs. Wade Greeley.
Northeast Technical Community College choir will present a Christmas concert in Norfolk Dec. 23. Richard Andrews is a choir member.

Saturday Mrs. Bill Dicke and Connie and Mrs. Vella Walgren attended the golden wedding anniversary celebration of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Johnson at Benkelman. Mr. Johnson and Mrs. Walgren were schoolmates at Sutton, Neb.
Mrs. Agnes Neville and daughters Jean, Jackie and Lynn of McCook were Thanksgiving Day guests of Mr. and Mrs. Al Peterson and children. Mrs. Grace Neville was also a guest and was a guest until Sunday.
The Kitt families held their Thanksgiving dinner at the Ike’s cabin at Enders Lake. There were 82 family members and 10 guests present.
Fifteen boys helped Nick Kanost celebrate his ninth birthday Saturday in the Edwin Kanost home.
R.L. Gloy was elected chairman of the 4-H Council in Chase County at a regular meeting held Nov. 29.
Thanksgiving day dinner guests in the Fern Nichols home were Mr. and Mrs. Lee Carter, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Nichols and boys, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Boyce, Mrs. Maggie Boyce and Tom Stock.

Due to the busy season, lunches at the library will be discontinued until after the holidays.
Mrs. Dick Steinbeck Jr. spent Tuesday with Mrs. H.C. Steinbeck while Mr. Steinbeck attended the automobile sale in Wauneta.
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Van Dyke and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Lester Martindale and daughter were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Trowbridge. Mr. Pierce demonstrated the “Wear Ever” aluminum.
Mr. and Mrs. Newt Ditton and children and families observed their Thanksgiving Sunday with a big turkey dinner at the Ditton home.

N.W. Nesmith and wife left for Blessing, Texas, on Tuesday to spend the winter.

Two exchange students, Insa Hicken and Christian Reusch, both from Germany, are attending school at Wauneta-Palisade. Hicken is staying at the home of Pat and Mary Madden and Reusch is staying with the Bill Atchison family in Palisade.
Neldon and Linda Hewitt of Seattle, Wash., came Sunday to the Kent Buffington home to visit through Thanksgiving before going to Arizona. Visitors Sunday evening were Janice and Don Hewitt and Kendi and James Cahoj and sons.
Lylas Hudson, Ronda Vrbas and Betty Carey spent several days in Minnesota with their brothers, Bud and Marilyn Norman and family of Fairboult and Jim and Cleone Norman and family of Rochester. Fifty-five family members enjoyed Thanksgiving at Jim and Cleone’s home.
Dalton Harchelroad was dedicated by Pastor Matt Hoffman at the Hamlet Union Church Sunday. His family, Brian and Michelle, Dawnta and Sydnee, hosted a dinner following the service.
Lloyd Lewis of Lincoln and Leslie and Jeremy Lewis of Raymond spent Friday to Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. John Lewis.
Marlin and Lois Wine attended the Community Thanksgiving service in Imperial Sunday evening. Also attending were Phyllis Nordhausen, Esther Einspahr and DeLores Taylor. Dodi Mohr was a participant.

Approximately 200 people turned out for the pancake supper benefit for the theatre with over $500 raised.
Anita Wheeler took part in the 450-voice all state chorus which performed in Fremont Saturday evening. During tryouts in October six out of 25 were selected and she was the second one chosen. Mr. and Mrs. Rod Wheeler and Roxy, Marjorie Wheeler and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Marshall and Kendrick of Enders attended the concert.
Mrs. Clara McBride and Lucille McBride attended the second year anniversary for Life-line subscribers and their responders at the Chase County Hospital in Imperial Wednesday afternoon.
Several of Wauneta’s Job Daughters attended church together at the Methodist Church Sunday and were dinner guests in the home of the parents of Honored Queen Lynnette Lawson.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Lapp of Hayes Center were Wednesday visitors of Leona Paustian. Joan Denker and Michelle Sis and Kelsie visited Friday.

Nebraska census figures were released with Wauneta Village listed with 794, Imperial with 1,423 and Chase County with 4,317.
A total of 29 deer were checked through the checking station at Imperial during the season with Wauneta hunters taking eight of the total.
The annual County Government Day was held Nov. 21 with 14 members of the high school junior class taking part.
Mrs. Carl Widger, Mrs. Mary McCallum and June McCallum called in the Gerry Wine home Monday morning to visit Mr. and Mrs. Lee Warnkee and girls from Elgin, Ill.
Mrs. Mary Athey left Monday for Denver and will go to Colorado Springs to spend Thanksgiving in the home of her son, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Athey and Athenia.
Sunday dinner guests in the Robert Egle home were Mr. and Mrs. Glen Glasco and family of Bird City, Kan., and Mr. and Mrs. Loren Egle and Larry.
Guests Sunday morning in the Bernard Modrell home were Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Hasty of Burlingame, Calif., Mrs. Wilbur Laird, Portland, Ore., Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Dunham and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dunham of Englewood, Colo., and Mr. and Mrs. Allen Carse. It was the first time all the sisters of Mrs. Modrell had been together for some time.

Miss Ora Denker spent the weekend with Miss Alvina Denker.
Mrs. Wallace Hartzer entertained a number of friends Friday complementary to Mrs. P. Peterson who with her husband is to leave soon to spend the winter in California.
A corn husking bee was held for Cecil Rowley. Thirty-three men turned out and shucked it all but eight acres. A number of women turned out and helped serve dinner.
Mrs. Jim Harrison and daughter Beulah visited Mrs. Elmer Harrison while the men attended the husking bee.
C. W. Pribbeno lost his well last week caused by caving in. J. C. Kitt started digging a new one Monday morning.
A surprise birthday party was given for Herman Nordhausen at the Henry Denker home Friday evening. The evening was spent playing pitch. Andrew Brunkhorst won first, Herbert Busking low. Ladies prizes were won by Linda Keiser and Esther Bischoff.

The alarm of fire was given last Thursday night at 12:30. It was the old bank building which was occupied by Mrs. Copeland’s millinery store.
The town should have that other cart and 400 feet of hose as originally intended. It will cost $385.00. We will loan the town $25.00 and take a warrant for the same. Who are the other 14 business men who will do likewise?
Mrs. Ray Gibson and Miss Greta Grosbach have gone down to Mrs. Gibson’s parents at Wilsonville to visit and eat turkey.

Herman Nordhausen looked back over the years, having been born 90 years ago in northern Germany, and recalled his early growing up years there and at age 15 coming to America. Living and working most of his early years in Kansas and Nebraska he and Alvina Denker married in 1936 and raised their family south of Wauneta. Herman noted 'I had a chance to get started from nothing really. It didn’t cost much back then...I came here from Germany and have made a good life with my family. I have lived the American Dream.’
Jasen Littrel, owner and operator of Triple L Repair, was welcomed as a new member of the Wauneta Chamber at a Chamber mixer held at Valley Bank and Trust.
Ruby Anderson and Ethel Bridgman attended the U.S.A.F. Heartland of America Band Concert in McCook, performed by the personnel of the Offutt Air Force Base at Omaha.
June Cox, Lucille Burtis, Connie Kuecker, Kay Haarberg, Irene Gerih, and Jan Gerih ate at the Senior Center Thursday, then visited in June’s home.
Esther Einspahr, Phyllis Nordhausen Charlene Pursley, and Lucille Newman were Friday afternoon coffee guests of DeLores Taylor.

Dot and Floyd Wilcox were honored on their 25th anniversary Saturday evening. About 40 guests attended the celebration which included lunch and a cake reception.
Margaret McCoy, Tammy and Renee were Wednesday and Thursday overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Rippe of Aurora, Colo.
Gary Gustafson and son Brian of Woodland Park, Colo., spent the weekend in the Jim McKinney home. The men went goose hunting.
Doris Robertson, Erma Wallace and Erma Newman returned last week from a trip to Missouri and Arkansas. They visited Woodrow and Leola Moody at Bella Vista, Ark., while in Arkansas.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Alberts returned home from a trip to Wisconsin where Mrs. Alberts attended an American Bible Society Seminar in Madison. They also visited a cousin, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Detloff in Sturgis, Mich.

Bud Long and his dog ‘Jack’ are to be featured on Channel 8’s TV program, “The Sportsmen’s Friend.” Television sportscaster Harold Ensley of Goodland, Kan., Jack Maddux, Long and his dog ‘Jack’ drove to the Maddux ranch on Nov. 3 for an afternoon of hunting. Ensley shot over 800 feet of film of the Wauneteans and Jack hunting the elusive pheasants.
The annual Hamlet Coop banquet was held Nov. 10 at the Hamlet School Auditorium with over 100 guests attending.
Tuesday evening guests in the C.J. Sutherland home to watch the election results were Rev. and Mrs. A.O. Ernst, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hardwick and Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Skelton.
The church pews at the Blanche Church were filled Sunday morning with a basket dinner following the service. The men enjoyed an afternoon of hunting. The women packed boxes for service boys, college students and the old folks home in Benkelman. The Christmas program was also organized with practice being held.
Friday evening Wendall Polly took a carload of Boy Scouts to McCook to swim in the YMCA swimming pool. Jack Fanning was an overnight guest of Donnie.
Mrs. Earl DeGarmo entertained Mrs. Adolf Engel, Mrs. Emma Steinbeck, Mrs. Edith Trembly and Mrs. Henry Bamesburger at coffee Wednesday afternoon.

The Rebekahs will sponsor a father and son banquet Nov. 20.
Mr. and Mrs. Ted Yant and sons were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Krausnick Monday evening.
Those who attended the Nebraska-Kansas football game in Lincoln from Wauneta were Melvin and Floyd Wade, Alvin Rueter, Perry Polly, Woodrow Moody, Robert Bradley, Bruce Person, and Marvin Athey.
Miss Hattie Rueter is a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Darby at Trenton.
A number of ladies surprised Mrs. W.T. Allen at her home Tuesday afternoon, bringing a dainty lunch with them. The afternoon was spent visiting and sewing.

Work is being done at the pump station in order to put the new pump in. The new pump will surely do business when installed and it is hoped that our troubles will be over when it is in place.
The school board has hired Miss Benjamine from McCook as the 4th teacher and as soon as the seats arrive and the room is ready she will begin teaching.
Rev. Joseph Egle of Phoenix, Ariz., arrived here Tuesday and will assist in holding meetings out at Eden.
Della and Eva Hanna attended the church dedication at Enders Sunday.
Geo Smith’s children were both quite sick Tuesday night. It is that disease without a name that has been in the neighborhood the last few weeks. |

A Halloween twister in Hayes County is believed to have destroyed a garage at the Iris Large farm, a calving shed and a large tree at the Ron and Jean Wach farm and several trees northeast of Wauneta.
Edith Gloy and Leona Littlejohn brought a birthday cake to Verna Anderson to help her celebrate her birthday on Wednesday. Thursday Diana Doetker, Carolyn Anderson, and Doretta Anderson took Verna to McCook for lunch on Thursday for her birthday.
Billy and Beth Smith returned home from the Big Ten Conference for the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Columbus, Ohio. They also visited Erie, Pa., Buffalo, N.Y., Niagara Falls and Jean and Ted Tuke and family in Rochester, N.Y.
Sunday evening Rod and Joy Wheeler hosted a hayrack and polish sausage barbecue for the Hamlet Church group.
Five Broncos received All-District recognition including Sam Kramer-offensive line; Eric Padilla-kick receiving specialist and honorable mention offense, Justin Baker-defensive line, Steven Humphrey-defensive linebacker and DeWayne Baker-honorable mention defensive team.
The Wauneta boy scouts from the Wolf Cubs, Bears and Webelos planted three trees with the help of their parents and leaders on the south edge of the park. Cost of the trees from $20 to $60 each was paid with money from Boy Scout fundraising activities such as their annual popcorn sales.

Eleven local Brownies received first-year membership stars at a rededication ceremony Nov. 7 which marked the success in getting a Girl Scout program started again in Wauneta. Brownies included Libby Lytle, Shauna Bardsley, Kelly McConnell, Cindy Snyder, Jennifer Maddux, Tami and Ane Sandman, Becky Bley, Rosalind Mintling, Raenelle Walgren and Diane Lucas. Co-leaders are Susan McConnell and Kathy Tubbs.
Mr. and Mrs. George Oberhuber and Mr. and Mrs. Ken Thieson were Nov. 2 weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Nordhausen and spent several days pheasant hunting before returning to Grants, N.M.
Wishing Mrs. Orley Troxel happy birthday last Wednesday were Ruby Anderson, Dorothy Baumfalk, June McCallum, Ruby Ham, Mary Ellen Fanning, Sophia Nordhausen and Joan Liebig. Her daughter, Mrs. Norma Bodeman, served cake and ice cream.
Brenda Pfeiffer and Gretchen of Omaha were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Vic Haarberg. The Jon Haarberg family were Sunday dinner guests.
John Oliver, formerly of Wauneta, was honored with at a retirement party at the Elks Club in Scottsbluff after serving 30 years with the state patrol. Among those attending the dinner and dance were his mother, Grace Oliver, his four children, J.D. Oliver, Rene Keller, Cecilia and Jimmy Oliver and brother, Jim Oliver. One guest of interest was Patrolman Harold Moon of Lincoln, a former Waunetan, who together with John took their examinations for the patrol together.

Three Wauneta High School students have been selected to attend the State Music Clinic in North Platte. They are Elaine Anderson in the band clinic and Jaunetta Sailors and Stuart Kitt in the vocal clinic.
State Jaycee President Bill Barrett of Lexington was a Thursday overnight guest in the Robert Walgren home.
Mrs. Fred Heldenbrand and Mrs. Wendall Polly entertained 39 boys and girls at a skating party Saturday evening at the Krausnick building in honor of their sons, Tommy Heldenbrand and Donnie Polly on their birthdays.
Mrs. Lucy Grose of Turlock, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Crandall Taylor were Monday evening supper guests in the Bill Grose home.
Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Kitt were Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Schwenk and Rhonda and Mr. and Mrs. Neil Kitt and family.

Federal reports show that farm wages in Nebraska have risen to the highest October point since 1932. The average farm wage in this state is shown as $23 a month with board and $32.25 without board, compared with $18.75 and $26.50 of last year.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kitt, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Seward and Mrs. Fletcher of Imperial on a three week trip through Illinois, Iowa and eastern Nebraska, returning last Friday.
E. E. Porter and daughter Lucille were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hardy.
Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Olmsted accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wacker and sons of Culbertson left Saturday forenoon for Lake Worth, Fla., where they will spend the winter.

Quite a number of the Mt. Zion people met at the parsonage Monday night and surprised Rev. Andres and family. Each family took them a chicken to give them a start on their flock. Everyone had a good time. |
