The Wauneta-Palisade Public Schools Board held its regular meeting Monday evening after holding the school board planning retreat Monday afternoon.
During the regular meeting board members accepted resignations from four current staff. Resigning staff members and their current job duties are listed below:
• Cindy Monahan–guidance counsellor, NHS sponsor
• Lisa McAlevy–junior high social studies, English, cheerleading sponsor
• Jennifer Loker–7-12 math, Spanish, assistant volleyball coach, 7th science, Student Council Sponsor
• Chad Cochran–art, FCS, sophomore sponsor, head wrestling coach.
The board thanked the teachers for their service to the school and noted one resigning teacher planned to retire, two were leaving teaching for a time and one plans to pursue a business opportunity in the area. Superintendent Randy Geier stated all four teachers are leaving the district on good standing.
The board approved teaching contracts for two teachers who will join the WP staff next year.
Taylor Lutz will teach middle school language arts and possibly some high school classes. Geier said Lutz is currently teaching her second year at Dundy County-Stratton Schools. Danny Schluckebier will join the WP staff as the new art teacher. Geier mentioned Schluckebier has subbed at WP numerous times and is able to teach art, welding and woodworking.
The board approved paying dues to the Nebraska Association of School Boards in the amount of $3,389. Geier noted the dues will be reduced by two percent if paid by April 1.
The board also discussed purchase of new wall mats for the gym at the Palisade Attendance Center. Geier noted Joseph Frecks, Athletic Director, has currently received one bid for $5,600 to $6,000. Board members decided to seek additional estimates before making a decision.
The next regular school board meeting was scheduled for Monday, April 4 at 4:30 p.m. MT/5:30 p.m. CT at the Palisade Attendance Center.
