A young Wauneta-Palisade Speech team started off its season Feb. 17 at the RPAC Speech Meet at Southwest High School.
Taking part for WP were Emily Day, Reagan Skow, Duncan Rector, Dennis Cavanaugh, Lake Reikofski and Haley Kirk.
“We have a young and fledgling team this year, with four of our six members never having competed before,” said sponsor Joy Farr.
Day, Skow, Rector, Cavanaugh and Reikofski performed in Oral Interpretation of Drama. Their performance of “How to Be a Villian” made finals and finished seventh.
Day and Kirk each spoke in the Serious Prose Division.
“We had an eventful day and the kids gained a lot of knowledge about how tournaments are run, what other schools are doing, and what to expect in the future,” Farr said. “We are hoping to continue gaining momentum” as the season progresses.
The group will return to Bartley Saturday for the Southwest Invitational this Saturday.
