Two men were arrested Wednesday after a robbery attempt north of Hamlet.
While checking on property belonging to Robert Hanna, Sam Munderloh found two men removing items from a building.
Hayes County Sheriff Tom Dow said the lock had been cut on the building and the men were carrying out a snow blower when Munderloh arrived.
As Munderloh left to call the sheriff, the men abandoned the snow blower and left in a pickup and car.
With officials alerted, an associate of Sheriff Dow spotted a door open and car inside a building at the Stone House owned by the Richards brothers. The door was closed a short time later when the sheriff’s associate drove by again. The Richards were contacted and told officials there wasn’t supposed to be a car in the building.
The sheriff and members of the Nebraska State Patrol found the suspects in the building.
Sheriff Dow said the suspects surrendered and had a space heater and submersible pump of Hanna’s in their possession.
Red Willow County Court officials identified the men as 28-year old Trent Jollensten of McCook and 34-year old Dean Krajewski of Ogallala.
Officials found a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine in the suspects’ possession, and the substance was sent to the state lab for further tests.
Jollensten and Krajewski were transported to the Red Willow County Jail by the Nebraska State Patrol.
Sheriff Dow said Jollensten and Krajewski were charged with felonies for burglary, possession of burglary tools and possession of controlled substances, as well as a theft charge.
