two village board seats up
for grabs this year

The Imperial Republican

It’s no secret 2016 is a U.S. Presidential election year.

But there are also a number of other important local and statewide office-holders that will be nominated and elected in the coming year, as well.

Included in that group are school board members at Wauneta-Palisade and Chase County Schools, village board and city council members,  a county commissioner, along with three Upper Republican NRD board members.

Add to that a District 3 House of Representatives member for the seat currently held by Adrian Smith, and board members for Mid-Plains Community College (MPCC) and University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL).

There is no Unicameral race involving Chase County this year. Only the odd-numbered districts have seats up for election in 2016. Sen. Dan Hughes of Venango, who represents Dist. 44 and Chase County, was elected in 2014.

For Wauneta’s village board, the two seats open are held by Lloyd Sinner and Rick Einspahr.

Voters in the Wauneta-Palisade school district will also vote on three  school board seats currently held by Jon Anderjaska, John Jutten and Jason Hicks.

The Chase County Commissioner District No. 1 seat currently held by Chuck Vette is also up for election this year.

For Imperial city council, one of the seats open is held by Johna Jablonski, although she has just been serving since August.

She was appointed to fill the seat of Dave Fulton, who moved from the community. Fulton was originally appointed to replace J.D. Reeder, who passed away while in office.

Imperial voters will also elect Airport Authority and Imperial Public Power District board members.

An incumbent who plans to seek re-election to the office he/she holds, or for an office other than the one in which they are presently serving, have until Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 5 p.m. to file.

All other candidates have until Tuesday, March 1, at 5 p.m. to file.

As of late Monday, County Clerk/Election Commissioner Debbie Clark said no one had filed for local office yet.
