The Wauneta-Palisade wrestlers took on the RPAC Friday in Trenton.
Six Broncos took part in the meet.
Coach Chad Cochran said the meet got off to a rough start, but the team stuck with it and finished the day strong.
Seth Straub went 3-2 on the day and finished fifth in the 182-pound class.
Cody Barrett picked up two wins and placed fifth in the 170-pound weight class.
Colton Barrett won one match in the 126-pound class.
At 106 pounds, Evan Nordhausen finished 0-3, but had two long matches. Cochran said Nordhausen’s final match of the day was close and exciting, though Nordhausen lost by decision.
Willis Christner did not win on the day, but Cochran said Christner had a good match against Devon Struck of Hitchcock County, losing by pin at the 4:20 mark.
In his first tournament of the season, Billy Straub wrestled in the 138-pound class.
“We saw some great things from him,” said Cochran. “He just needs some experience.”
“All-in-all it wasn’t a great day for our lighter weights, but our two heavier weights did well,” said Cochran.
The wrestlers will be at Medicine Valley Friday and at Arapahoe on Saturday.
On Feb. 6, WP will wrestle at Southwest. Districts will be Feb. 12 and 13.
