Evan Nordhausen, Angel Hinojosa and Seth Straub represented the Wauneta-Palisade wrestling team at the Jan. 8 Dundy County-Stratton Invitational.

Straub was wrestling in his first meet of the season. In the 182-pound weight class, Straub went 1-3 and placed sixth.

“I was happy with Seth’s first showing of the year,” said Coach Chad Cochran. “I like most of what I saw out of him Friday. We found some things that we think will work well for him this year.”

After several weeks off with an injury, Hinojosa returned and went 1-2 before forfeiting his final match to finish fourth.

Hinojosa was leading for most of his first match before being pinned late.

After winning his second match, Hinojosa lost to second place finisher Jake Korinek, who he had beaten earlier in the season.

Cochran said freshman Nordhausen continues to improve.

“Evan gained some more experience wrestling three of the same guys he has wrestled this year. He is getting better with the more mat time he sees,” Cochran said.

Cochran hopes to see his team be healthy Saturday at the Chase County Invitational. Hoping to return to the mat are Colton and Cody Barrett, Willis Christner and Billy Straub.

On Jan. 22, the Broncos will be at the RPAC Invite.
