The Wauneta-Palisade girls’ basketball team ran into a juggernaut Dec. 22 when it took on Class D1 number-one ranked Dundy County-Stratton.
DCS scored on its first four possessions of the game, before WP broke into the scoring column with a free throw.
WP went on to 12 first quarter points, while the high-powered Tigers’ offense put 28 points on the board.
The trend continued in the second quarter. Though DCS picked up its tenth foul one minute into the second quarter, the deep Tiger bench kept individual players out of foul trouble.
The Broncos shot 15 first- half free throws, making 10 attempts.
DCS pulled away throughout the third quarter and gained a 40-point advantage at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter was played with a running clock.
Faith Simpson led WP with 16 points.
Colby Cox also finished in double figures with 10 points.
Ellie Lee added six points.
Rebounding gave the Broncos fits all night. WP finished with 15 total rebounds. DCS had 24 offensive rebounds and 44 total rebounds.
Simpson led WP with six rebounds. Lee, Skow and Cox each had three rebounds.
Cox and Lee had two assists each. Cox had three steals.
WP hosted Arapahoe Tuesday night.
Friday, Jan. 8 the Broncos will be at Hitchcock County. The following night WP will host Southwest.
