The Wauneta-Palisade wrestlers headed to Southern Valley Dec. 11 for the second meet of the season.
Coach Chad Cochran said this was another good meet for the Broncos.
Most of the team wrestled five matches, which Cochran said can be hard on an athlete, but “I liked what I saw out of most of my guys.”
Cody Barrett, in the 182-pound class, and Colton Barrett, in the 126-pound class, each went 2-3.
After missing the first meet of the season, Cody Barrett won his first match, before running into some tougher wrestlers, according to Cochran. Barrett finished seventh out of 11 wrestlers.
Colton Barrett won his second match and then his final match of the contest. Cochran said he was pleased with the strong finish.
After winning his first two matches at 145 pounds, Angel Hinojosa reinjured his back and had to forfeit his final two matches. Cochran hopes to see him return for this week.
In the 16-man, 152-pound weight class, Willis Christner won his first match of the season by fall over Levi Ellis of Norton.
“Willis has a lot of fight and always gives it his all each and every match,” said Cochran.
Cochran said Evan Nordhausen, in the 106-pound weight class, has struggled with the weight differences he faces, but getting better and will continue to improve with each passing week.
Overall, “we had some tough matches but everyone recovered and showed great resolve,” Cochran said.
WP will be at Cambridge Saturday for its last meet of 2015, the Fran Jorgenson Invitational.
