This year’s Wauneta Chamber Christmas Kick-off packed the Wauneta Community Building Monday night with an estimated 150 people attending.
The event, organized by Amanda Pankonin and Rebecca Munderloh, included the sixth annual Chili Cook-off, fourth annual Christmas Tree Decorating Contest and songs by Wauneta-Palisade kindergartners and preschool children.
Another activity was coloring, which this year was on trend with children and adults participating.
Everyone enjoyed the chili contest and helped pick the People’s Choice winner, selecting Shane Anderson, representing Frenchman Valley Coop, as the winner for a fourth year.
Judges chose Stephen Thompson, representing Harchelroad Motors, as their favorite. The top Judges’ Choice honors went to Anderson last year.
The Wauneta Girl Scouts’ tree won top honors of the three trees entered in the Christmas Tree Decorating Contest, their second win in as many years. The best decorated tree was determined by a vote of those in attendance.
The event generated $654 from free will donations. The funds will be used to pay the evening’s expenses with the balance going to the Wauneta Chamber’s general account. Funds will then be used for future Chamber initiatives.
