Dec. 1, 2005

Snow accompanied by high winds socked western and central Nebraska with blizzard conditions, closing schools and businesses across the region. Wauneta-Palisade was among the numerous Nebraska schools cancelling classes Monday and Tuesday, extending Thanksgiving vacation for students and staff.

While snowfall amounts were light, with 3-4 inches reported in the Wauneta and Palisade areas — wind gusts of 50 to 70 miles per hour created a hazardous scenario.

25 years ago this week

Dec. 6, 1990

Russel Polly and Ramona Nordhausen have been familiar faces at the Wauneta Post Office.  Polly retired last week after more than 40 years of service and Nordhausen retired in October with 30 years of service. Nordhausen received a service award, a gold watch and a pin.

50 years ago this week

Dec. 2, 1965

Three big days in Wauneta—Free Turkey Toss.  After the free movies each Saturday, turkeys will be released from the tops of downtown Wauneta business houses! Those who catch these turkeys will have free turkey for Christmas!

75 years ago this week

Dec. 4, 1940

Fchase a good sedan or couch, let us show you how Wauneta slid easily over the goal of 160 on the first week of the Red Cross drive. Since that time loyal donors have come to the office  and brought the final total up to 174.

Those coming in this week are Mrs. Mary Lewis, J.I. Kerchal,  J.J. Littrel, C.C. Stock, Mrs. A.E. Miller, Mrs. Art Polly and a friend who did not want his name published.

100 years ago this week

Dec. 2, 1915

Someone played a joke on the pastor and family last Sunday by leaving a fresh side of spare ribs at our front door. Come again. J.J. Christner, Pastor

Parties knowing themselves indebted to me can pay the same at Wauneta Falls Bank. Jo Dudeck.

Grandma Dougherty is somewhat better.

Sam West is building a large barn 60x62, the same style as the Sprunger ranch.
