High school sports seasons are quickly approaching.
According to the Nebraska School Activities Association, football practices may begin Aug. 10 and volleyball practices Aug. 17.
First games may be scheduled for Aug. 27 for football and Sept. 3 for volleyball.
This year will be the first that the NSAA has enforced a 14-day heat acclimazation policy. During the first five days of practice for football, golf, softball, tennis and cross country, athletes may only participate in one practice per day, not exceeding three hours.
For football, teams may have a one-hour walk-through, but must wait three-hours before practice.
The only equipment football players may wear during a walk-though and for the first two days of practice is a helmet.
Shoulder pads may be used beginning on day three and teams can start using blocking sleds and tackling dummies.
On day six, players can wear full gear and teams can have full contact.
Two-a-days may begin on day six through day 14, but must alternate with single practice days.
