When packing begins today (Thursday), it will mark the beginning of the 5th annual Feed My Starving Children (FMSC)
MobilePack™ event in Imperial.
The event will run from today through Saturday. It is being held at the Crossroads Wesleyan Church, 1710 Wesley Drive. It’s sponsored by Southwest Nebraska Meals for God’s Children (SNMGC).
Dick Banks of Imperial, who coordinates the event, said everything appears on track for another successful event.
Semi trucks with the food and packing supplies were scheduled to arrive Wednesday, he said. FMSC staff is scheduled to arrive today.
The first packing sessions will be held from 5-7 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today.
Two-hour packing sessions will be held Friday from 10 a.m. to midnight and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Banks said they are still needing volunteers to pack. The online signup is the easiest way to sign up, Banks said.
Once on the FMSC wesbite, www.fmsc.org, people can click on the “volunteer registration” link in the upper right corner of the page to navigate to Imperial’s MobilePack™ event.
Banks said people can also donate toward the nearly $60,000 to pay for meals, which cost 22 cents to produce.
Donations can also be made online or by mail. When making donations online, donors should designate the Imperial event number—1507-54EA.
Banks said checks can be mailed to FMSC, PO Box 1232, Imperial, NE 69033. Checks should be made out to FMSC Event 1507-54EA.
He reminded people FMSC is a charitable organization recognized by the Internal Revenue Service and all gifts are tax-deductible.
Banks said the committee has set a goal of packing more than 272,000 meals during the three-day event. That represents on efull shipping container that can be shipped directly overseas.
In the four years the FMSC packing events have been held in Imperial, more than 1.5 million meals have been packaged and sent to needy children overseas.
People wanting more information about the event or need assistance with the volunteer process can contact Banks at 308-883-0397.
