The Wauneta Breeze
Nancy Noble, a proud Wauneta business owner, opened Country Clipper 27 years ago in August of 1988.
Nancy has had her beauticians license since before she graduated high school. After high school she worked for two years then took a 10 year break to raise her children.
When her children became old enough to take care of their daily needs by themselves Nancy decided to start working again. She bought the building her business has always been in and began her journey.
Nancy provides hair cuts for the whole family, permanents, colors, high lights and low lights and can do a variety of hair styles. Along with the hair salon she also has a gift shop in the back room of her building.
Nancy opened up her gift shop for those last minute baby shower, birthday and bridal shower gifts. She sells lotions, stuffed animals, candles, jewelry, and a variety of other accessories.
One way that Nancy gets the word out about her businesses is through word of mouth, which is very common in small towns. She also lists all her specials on facebook.
As a licensed beautician Nancy is required by Nebraska state law to complete eight hours of continuing education training every two years to renew her license. She does this training at the local hair convention.
The hair convention offers beauticians a chance to learn new styles and see new trends, new colors and the new product lines that are now offered for them to use in their salons. Nancy also gets most of her gift shop items from the gift market in Denver.
Nancy has enjoyed working in the small town of Wauneta. She loves the fact that she can get to know all of her customers and their personalities which helps her know what her customers are going to like and dislike. Nancy commented, “It is more laid back and not high stressed.” She also likes that she can charge less for her services compared to other hair salons.
Nancy does a lot of children’s hair cuts, older ladies shampoo sets and perms, and men’s hair cuts, which she feels is the only disadvantage of working in a small town as there is not much variety.
She believes no one should have to leave town to get what they want done with their hair. She believes with three hair salons in town you should be able to “get it done at home.”
Nancy commented “I have enjoyed doing what I have been doing for the past 27 years but am looking forward to the next chapter in my life.” Which she hopes to include more time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and to travel more so she has decided to only have her salon open two days a week.
She has been a successful business owner for a large part of her life and hopes to continue to keep her hair salon open to her customers and gain new customers as time continues to pass.
