The Harvest Festival committee has announced the grand marshal and theme of the 2015 celebration.
Southwest Public Power District will serve as the Harvest Fest parade grand marshal and the theme will be “Keeping Southwest Nebraska Connected Over the Years.”
The committee said they named SWPPD as grand marshal because it is the organization’s 70th anniversary this year. They noted this will be SWPPD’s first time as Harvest Fest grand marshals.
“As a committee, we decided SWPPD was a great choice for this year’s grand marshal because of the service they have provided to the area for so many years,” explained Harvest Fest committee chairperson Brenda Anderson.
Anderson went on to explain the committee often looks for businesses or organizations celebrating an anniversary when working to select a grand marshal.
“SWPPD is honored to be this year’s Grand Marshal of the Wauneta Harvest Fest parade. For the last 70 years affordable and reliable electricity has played a vital role in the development and prosperity in the rural areas of our great state and we plan to continue for at least 70 more,” said Curtis Kayton, SWPPD General Manager. “From all of us at SWPPD we say thanks for your support of your local controlled, and operated Public Power District.”
The Harvest Fest committee consists of Anderson, Mandi Kramer, Terry Engell, Kathy Kerchal and Rebecca Munderloh.
Wauneta’s Harvest Festival will be held July 23-26, 2015. This year’s festival will feature a talent show Saturday night. Those who are interested in participating should contact Aaron and Sara Behrends at (308) 394-5936. More information regarding the weekend’s events will be provided as the date nears.
