The Wauneta Breeze

Things continue to fall into place for BRAN (Bicycle Ride Across Nebraska) 35, which will take off from Wauneta next weekend.

Local BRAN committee chairperson Joey Large said 460 BRAN riders and staff members will arrive in Wauneta on or before Saturday, June 6, prior to the Sunday, June 7 start of the 35th BRAN.

Large said several locals have stepped up to volunteer for the various jobs that will need to be completed during BRAN’s visit to Wauneta. However, there is still room for more, he says.

Several activities planned

There will be a lot going on in town while the BRAN riders and staff are here. One of the biggest events will be a downtown food court on the northern most two blocks of Tecumseh Avenue the evening of Saturday, June 6.

That evening four local organizations will be offering food in the food court–Mercy Meals of Southwest Nebraska, the Lions Club, The Wauneta Volunteer Fire Department/Wauneta EMS and the Wauneta-Palisade Booster Club. Good Times Bar and Wauneta Crossroads will also offer meal specials during the food court hours.

Large said locals are welcome to come and eat with the riders during the Saturday evening food court as well as during the breakfasts the following morning.

Locals are also encouraged to show their pride by wearing T-shirts designed by Susie’s Creative Stitches on Saturday and/or Sunday while the BRAN riders are in town. Large said the T-shirts will help BRAN riders know who to ask for help if they want information about the local area or communities.

Saturday afternoon and evening Night Sounds entertainment of Imperial will be providing DJ music during events as well as a photo booth at the BRAN campground on the Wauneta-Palisade Schools football and practice fields. Riders and staff will be able to send loved ones postcards from Wauneta after visiting the photo booth.
