The Wauneta-Palisade boys’ regular season ended Friday night with a 50-86 loss to Dundy County-Stratton (14-9).

The Broncos trailed throughout the game. Getting baskets by Brody Nordhausen, Paul Behrends, Cash Yearous, Chase Rathe and Tyler Carl, WP trailed 11-29 at the end of the first quarter. In a game filled with free throws, WP made neither of its first two attempts  while DCS made six-of-eight.

The second quarter was mostly spent at the free throw line. WP made nine-of-14 attempts with Rathe making six-of-seven. DCS made 11-of-16 free throws.

A three pointer by Rathe and a two-point bucket by Tyler Davis gave WP 25 points in the first half against the Tigers’ 53.

DCS continued to send WP to the charity stripe in the third quarter.

Davis made two-of-three free throws, including converting a three-point play.

T. Carl and Chris Carl each made one-of-two free throws and Yearous hit both of his attempts. A basket by Rathe gave WP 10 points in the third quarter to the Tigers’13.

Davis, Nordhausen, Yearous, Behrends and T. Carl scored for WP in the fourth quarter.

Rathe scored a game high 16 points for WP. Davis scored 11 points.

For the game WP made 17-of-30 free throws, while DCS made 22-of-32.

Davis and Rathe led WP with five rebounds each. Yearous had three assists. Nordhausen, Yearous and Rathe each had two steals.


Subdistrict action

Fifth-seed Maywood (5-17)defeated fourth-seed 3-19  Hayes Center 50-31 Monday night to open subdistrict games.

Playing in Cambridge, the Tigers took on top-seeded Hitchcock County (17-6) Tuesday prior to WP’s game with second-seeded Wallace (11-9).

Winners of the two games will advance to Thursday’s subdistrict finals game.
