The Wauneta-Palisade speech team continues to have a busy February.

The team travelled to Sutherland Feb. 7. Senior Christi Christner was the only Broncos to make the finals. Christner performed the Serious Prose piece “Crazy.”

Sponsor Liz Noler said, “We had quite a few that week who were just outside of finals,” including Cameo Rector’s humorous, Paul Behrends in Extemporaneous, Christner and Rector in Duet and Emily Day in Serious Prose.

On Feb. 14 the group travelled to North Platte. Christner once again made the finals in Serious Prose and placed twelth.

The OID of Kenna Blackman, CeAnna Brewer, Faith Simpson, Alejandra Almanza, and Emily Day made Novice Finals and placed second in the category. Their performace is called “Radio TBS: Trailer Park Broadcasting Scandals.”

Wednesday, Feb. 18, was the RPAC Speech Tournament held at the Hitchcock County Elementary school in Culbertson with all 14 conference members in attendance.

“Dora’s 10 Best Adventures” by Rector placed sixth in Humorous Prose. Christner was third in Serious Prose. The pair was third in Duet Acting with “Cinderella Revisited.” Behrends was sixth in Extemporaneous. The OID team was third.

Overall WP placed sixth.

Following the Southwest Speech Meet this Saturday, the members of the team will perform for the community Tuesday, March 10 at the annual Speech Night at the Chateau Theatre.

The team’s final meet before Districts on March 16 will be at Eustis-Farnam on March 13. State will be March 26-27 at Kearney

Noler said that although the team is young, WP is having more successes than she had anticipated.

“This is a growing year for sure, but the novices are showing great gains from one meet to the next and are willing to change what they are doing, which is the key to success in speech,” Noler said.
