After nearly a week off, the Wauneta-Palisade boys’ basketball team lost to Hayes Center in overtime Friday in the Broncos’ final game of the RPAC tournament.
The Broncos led at the end of the first quarter, thanks to three-pointers by Tyler Davis and Cash Yearous after a two-point basket by Tyler Carl got WP on the board.
WP wasn’t able to hang on to the 8-6 lead as Hayes Center (3-13) made three three-pointers in the second quarter while limiting the Broncos to a field goal by Chase Rathe and a three-pointer by Chris Carl.
Trailing 13-17 at halftime, WP watched Hayes Center extend its lead in the third quarter. The Broncos once again only managed five points, this time a field goal from Brody Nordhausen and another three-pointer from Davis, while allowing the Cardinals 12 points.
The Broncos rallied in the fourth quarter. Behind four points from Nordhausen and T. Carl, WP tied the game at 29 at the end of regulation play.
Each team made a three-pointer in the overtime period, with WP’s by Yearous. A field goal by Hayes Center’s Tyrone Brane made the difference in the 32-34 loss.
Yearous led WP with eight points.
Now 4-12, WP will travel to 8-7 Medicine Valley Thursday and host 5-10 Sutherland Friday.
