Wauneta-Palisade junior Cameo Rector led the school’s FFA team in Livestock Judging at Southern Valley Saturday.
The senior team of Tryssta Duvel, Stephanie Acosta and Rector finished fifth. Most teams had at least four members, with the top four scores counting towards the team score.
Rector was fourth out of 34 participants.
Each student judged breeding does, ewes, gilts and heifers; feedlot steers; and market hogs, lambs and goats. After looking over the animals, each member had 20 minutes to prepare for oral reasoning in front of judges.
The junior team was composed of Reagan Skow, Cash Yearous, Mike Lovell, Tyler Davis, Jadyn Ingold and Matthew Knotts.
Evan Nordhausen and Dakota Ingold represented the junior high.
Skow finished 14th in the junior division. She was four points away from a top 10 finish. The top 20 was separated by 25 points.
FFA sponsor Marilyn Houdek said the event provided good practice for the kids who were attending their first contest.
The next FFA event will be districts on Nov. 13.
