Sam Johnson of Champion recently joined Champa Group as the new manager of its Exceptional Prints division.

Johnson began her duties on May 27 this year. She will oversee marketing, design and printing of products for Exceptional Prints.

In her first month on the job Johnson has been busy “getting her feet on the ground,” Champa owner Rod Keiser said.

Johnson has begun meeting customers in Wauneta as well as beginning the marketing aspects of her duties. She is also learning Joomla, a platform for web site design. She is also getting up to speed on the various technologies used at the Champa office for design and print work.

Johnson says her favorite thing about the position is the creativity, “I love being creative.”

Johnson, a native of Champion, has a passion for graphic design. She began working in graphic design when working as an ad designer for the Eagle Grove Eagle newspaper in Eagle Grove, Iowa. She then combined her graphic design skills with her passion for scrap booking and took classes in digital scrap booking while living in Iowa.

Since moving back to Chase County Johnson has been designing graduation and wedding announcements for friends and family from her home.

Johnson’s start at the business will help Exceptional Prints take its next big step, adding a large format latex printer which will be used for printing decals and large, permanent outdoor banners.

“I’m hoping we’ll expand our business with Exceptional Prints to offer new services and products,” Keiser said. “I needed someone to spearhead the expansion.”

Keiser added Johnson’s contributions at the office will allow him to focus more of his time on the technical aspects of Champa’s products and services. In addition to printing and design services offered through Exceptional Prints, Champa Group also offers Mobotix security camera systems and services and provides technical support on personal computers. Champa is a HP partner for PCs, laptops, servers and printers. They also stock over 50 different HP inkjet cartridges.

Johnson joins the current Champa Group staff including Amanda Pankonin, Dan O’Bryne, Hayden Pollmann and Brooklyn Nordhausen. She lives west of Champion with her husband, Chris, who works on their family ranch and their three daughters: Alex, 7, Charlie, 4, and Blake, 1.
