The Wauneta-Palisade C-team finished third last week in the Nebraska-Kansas Tournament played in Wauneta.
Teams participating were Benkelman (5-0), Cheylin, Kan., (5-2), WP (3-2), St. Francis, Kan.,(1-5) and Atwood, Kan., (1-6).
After Atwood beat St. Francis to open the tournament Tuesday, July 1, WP took on Cheylin. WP led throughout the game, but allowed two runs in the bottom of the ninth to lose 3-2.
Teams returned Wednesday, July 2, to wrap up play.
WP faced St. Francis in the first game of the day. Falling behind, WP was able to comeback and win 12-7.
Moving through the losers bracket to face Atwood, WP once again fell behind early and rallied to win 13-7.
In WP’s third game in a row and one game away from the Championship game, WP took on Benkelman. The Broncos held a 3-0 lead but lost 9-3.
Coach Jon Anderjaska said his team “ran out of steam and pitching arms.”
Cheylin won the tournament with a 7-2 defeat of Benkelman.
