The Wauneta-Palisade school board held a special meeting last Wednesday, June 25, to discuss flooring options and administrative salaries.
The board plans to replace flooring in the main hallways on the first floor.
Board members first discussed replacing the flooring at their regular meeting on June 9. Through discussion they decided to get estimates to replace the outdated and mismatched tiles in the first floor main hallways.
During the special meeting June 25 the building and grounds committee members provided an overview of their visit to two locations in McCook that provide flooring services.
Superintendent Randy Geier passed out estimates from Samway Floor Covering and Furniture which included options for carpet tiles and traditional tile flooring.
Board members decided to purchase custom carpet tiles that include random solid color tiles to ease tile replacement if a tile were to become too stained.
The estimate for the custom colored carpet was for $13,400, however it did not include floor preparations and included $1,100 for baseboards. Treasurer Laurie Maris reported that the building and grounds fund currently has a balance of roughly $166,000.
The board approved purchase of the flooring without the baseboards and a maximum floor preparation of $1,000–roughly $13,300 total. They hope to have the new flooring installed before the beginning of school.
After the flooring discussion school board members went into executive session to discuss administrative salaries.
The school board’s next regular meeting is currently set for Monday, July 14. The public is welcome to attend school board meetings.
