The Wauneta Harvest Fest committee recently announced the Grand Marshals of the 2014 Harvest Fest parade. Ed and Jo Arenz were chosen for the honor due to their business, Roonie’s Place, being on Wauneta’s main street for 30 years and for their contributions to the community.
The theme for this year’s parade will be, “Flower Power...Bloomin’ in Wauneta.”
Ed and Jo have been highly involved in the community for many years.
Ed has served as chairman of the Wauneta village board, the park board, was a member of the Wauneta Volunteer Fire Department, Wauneta EMS and on the Hamlet Union Church board.
Jo has served on both the school board and the senior center board.
“They are always willing to donate their time to help out when needed,” explains Harvest Fest Chairperson Brenda Anderson. “They have given many hours to the Chamber, with being in charge of the Harvest Fest barbecue for the last several years.”
Roonie’s Place celebrated its 30th anniversary on Feb. 14, 2014. The business opened its door on Valentine’s Day 1984 as a result of a joking comment at a Thanksgiving dinner in 1983. Its 30 years of successful operation show that drive, determination and good customer service can turn a partially serious idea into a staple of the business community.
“We don’t realize the things Ed and Jo do for the people who can’t get back on Memorial Day, delivering flowers to our friends and family for special occasions and taking part in the loss of our family members,” Anderson explains. “They do a great job!”
Harvest Fest Committee members include Anderson, Kathy Kerchal, Mandi Kramer and Terry Engell.
