The Wauneta-Palisade C-Team baseball squad continued its season with a 10-6 win over Atwood, Kan., on the home diamond last Thursday. The visitors exploded early for four runs in the first inning and two more in the second. The Broncos regrouped and focused on its strengths to hold the Buffaloes scoreless the rest of the way to push their Kansas-Nebraska League record to two wins and a single loss.
Cord Lee started on the mound for the Broncos giving way to Ben Anderjaska with Tucker Boos behind the plate. Pitching control was key in the Bronco victory. There was good defense backing them up which proved to be the difference. Atwood put runners on base only to leave them stranded when the WP pitching bore down and the defense stiffened and refused to let them score. The young Bronco team turned in two double plays to eliminate scoring threats and picked a runner off at second base to erase another. Lake Reikofski anchored the infield and Alex Stehno did the same for the WP outfield.
In the JV game, Evan Nordhausen, Gunner Goings, Austin Rozelle, and Tucker Boos shared the pitching duties and did a great job of throwing strikes.
Wyatt Muths and Garrett Hanna led the team in hitting and Hanna added a couple of nice plays at first base on defense while Muths roamed the field helping to fill gaps and hold runners. Kyle Jutten, Joshua Hicks, Kolter Rahn, and Allen Ramirez did well at the plate and added hustle to every play in the field.
The WP Broncos next C-Team game will be in St. Francis this Thursday, June 19th.
