Dear Editor:

On Wednesday, April 30, we had some impressive guests for lunch at our Capitol Hill office. Mindy Castle, Jeff Dickey, Kory Krutsinger, Travis Luhrs, Ryan Moline, Emma Mollendor, Issac Sorensen, Dan Sullivan, and their sponsors Jeff and Diane Kuenne, joined us on the last day of their Freedoms Foundation trip to Washington, DC. By all accounts, the trip was a great experience for all the students and the sponsors.

I am very pleased to see this program, in which I participated with trip sponsors Dan and Jane Lenners in 1985, is still going strong. It is such a great program as it provides for many a first-time opportunity to learn about our country by visiting Valley Forge and Washington, DC.

Jeff and Diane Kuenne are to be commended for taking time from their busy schedules to be trip sponsors, and the parents of each of the students are to be especially commended. Every one of those young people looked me in the eye, said thank you for the food we provided, and shook my hand properly. If that luncheon had been an interview, I would have hired them all.

Chase County should be very proud of these young people and of its Freedoms Foundation program. This program represents everything that is good about our country.

Please encourage every high-school student you may know to apply next year and consider adding your name or business as a contributor to Freedoms Foundation. For more information about Freedoms Foundation, please contact Elizabeth Haarberg at (308) 882-5095.
