The Wauneta-Palisade Bronco Boys picked up their fifth win and lost early in the week to Chase County.


Roughed up by Longhorns

WP traveled to Imperial Tuesday to take on the Longhorns (15-6).

Chase County started off the game with an 11-0 lead. WP was unable to score until a Hayden Pollmann basket fell with 3:17 left in the first quarter. The Broncos added a three-pointer by Lorenzo Cavanaugh and trailed 5-19 at the end of the first quarter.

Chase County continued to pull away in the second quarter. Wes Anderjaska hit a three-pointer for the Broncos and following two free throws by Pollmann, Tyler Davis made two-of-two free throw attempts and a basket. The Broncos trailed 14-37 at halftime.

WP put up nine points in the third quarter. Anderjaska and Cavanaugh each made two-point baskets. Following an Anderjaska free throw, Pollmann hit a two-pointer. The Broncos finished the quarter with two free throws by Anderjaska.

The Broncos closed out the 29-65 loss with fourth quarter baskets by Anderjaska, Pollmann and Paul Behrends.

Anderjaska led WP with 10 points. Pollmann added eight points.


Get revenge at Maywood

WP responded Friday night with a 45-38 win at Maywood. The Tigers beat WP 57-50 Jan. 28 during the RPAC tournament.

Anderjaska carried the team in the first quarter, scoring WP’s first seven points. Landon Jutten broke the Anderjaska run with a two point bucket, but Anderjaska closed out the quarter with a three-pointer. The Broncos trailed 12-14 at the end of the quarter.

Pollmann carried the team in the second quarter. After Chase Rathe made a free throw, Pollmann made seven straight points. Giving up only five points to Maywood, WP led 20-19 at halftime.

The Broncos extended its lead in the third quarter. Anderjaska hit a three-pointer to start WP scoring. Following a Brody Nordhausen free throw, Pollmann made five straight points. A basket by Davis gave WP 11 points in the quarter and the Broncos held a 31-29 lead.

Anderjaska started WP off again with a two-pointer. Pollmann continued his big night, scoring nine straight points. Rathe made three-of-four free throws down the stretch to help seal the win.

Pollmann finished with 21 points. Anderjaska added 15 points.


Subdistrict pairings released

The NSAA released pairings for D2 basketball Tuesday.

WP will travel to Bartley to take on the Maywood Tigers Monday night. The game will start at 6:00 p.m. MT/7:00 p.m. CT.

The winner will play Hitchcock County (17-3) Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. MT/6:00 p.m. CT in Bartley.

Number three seed Hayes Center (11-8) and number two seed Wallace (16-4) will also play Tuesday night.
