Gage Crowell wrapped up the Wauneta-Palisade regular season wrestling schedule with a meet at Southwest Saturday.
“It wasn’t the best day we’ve had,” said coach Chad Cochran.
Crowell won his opening match by fall over Tristan Kirch (9-21) of Garden County.
He then lost to Tabor Erickson (23-10) of Oberlin, Kan. Erickson finished the meet in third place.
Crowell finished the meet with a loss to Chase County’s Kristofer Kuhlmann (12-18). Kuhlmann went on to lose to the eventual fourth place finisher.
“It was a large tournament with a lot of good teams,” Cochran said. “We would have liked to see Gage pick up a couple more wins, but we are happy to have a winning record for districts.”
Athletes with a winning record are seeded in the upcoming district meet at North Platte St. Pat’s.
Teams in WP’s district are Banner County, Crawford, Creek Valley, Dundy County-Stratton, Garden County, Hay Springs, Hemingford, Hitchcock County, Hyannis, Minatare, Morrill, Mullen, North Platte St. Pat’s, Perkins County, SMC, Sioux County and Sutherland.
Cochran expects Crowell to be seeded fourth or fifth at districts.
Cody Barrett should be healthy and ready to go for the meet also. Joseph Sramek is still injured and will not compete.
Districts will be held Friday and Saturday.
