This close-up photo of ice in the Frenchman River in Wauneta is just one sign of the freezing temperatures seen in the area over the past week. Wind chills in Southwest Nebraska got as low as -23 degrees on Sunday, Jan. 5, according to the National Weather Service, North Platte office. Other areas in the midwest were not as lucky–wind chills in Montana dropped to a low of -63 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures in southwest Nebraska are supposed to be a bit warmer for now. The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook notice Tuesday, stating that a powerful storm with the potential to produce high winds may hit our area on Sunday.
