The Wauneta Breeze
When thinking back over the past year, Waunetans have a lot to celebrate. One of those things is the thriving business community in Wauneta.
Wauneta is luckier than many small towns in Nebraska and beyond; it features a thriving business community and has a main street with few vacant buildings.
However, this “luck” is much more than that, more likely than not the successes of Wauneta’s business community should more likely be attributed to the hard work and never-ending effort of community leaders and business leaders to make Wauneta a good place to do business.
During 2013 Wauneta’s business community saw two new businesses in 2013–the opening of Wellstone Industires in the summer and Little Broncs and Tots Daycare in the early fall.
Wellstone Industries’ move to Wauneta was an expansion project of the established business from Wray, Colo. Little Broncs and Tots Daycare was a passion project of Dawn Doetker and Lindsay Anderson, who saw the need for a daycare in Wauneta and strove to fill the need.
Tommy’s Sports Club II opened its doors again in May 2013 with a new owner, Marci Burgess, after the former business had been closed for some time.
In November one of Wauneta’s long-time hair salons, Hair Chateau, changed hands from Cindy Nichols to Ariel Fanning.
Two of Wauneta’s businesses celebrated anniversaries during 2013. Sinner’s Paint and Body Shop celebrated 60 years and Advanced Automotive celebrated 15 years.
Wauneta’s locally-owned nursing home, which was purchased in July 2012, continues to thrive and enjoyed a successful first year.
See the print edition for photos of these new businesses as well as a new home that graced the streets of Wauneta in 2013. The print edition also includes a walk back through the milestones seen throughout the year by looking back at births, deaths and weddings reported to the Breeze during 2013.
We hope you enjoy this walk back through 2013 and that you will be reminded of just how far Wauneta has come!
