The Chase County Commissioners will re-interview for the position of Emergency Management Director on Dec. 3.
That’s because the commissioners voted 2-1 recently to change the position from full time to part time.
The commissioners originally advertised the position as full time. However, after interviewing prospective employees, they went into executive session at their last meeting.
After coming out of executive session, Commissioners Don Weiss, Jr. and Chuck Vette voted to readvertise the position as part time, while Commissioner Jodi Thompson opposed the change.
Thompson said she voted against the part-time position because “I think there’s more work to be done than a part-time person might be willing to give to the job.”
County Clerk Deb Clark said letters will be sent to those who applied to see if they are still interested in applying for a part-time position.
The commissioners are looking for someone to replace Paul Kunnemann, who retires Jan. 1, 2014 after 25 years of service. He has been a part-time employee.
