|Fall seasons finish, winter sports begin|

Volleyball and six-man football have officially wrapped up in 2013.
In football, two Wauneta-Palisade opponents advanced to the state championship game Nov. 8.
Silver Lake, which defeated WP 51-6 on Oct. 25, defeated Hyannis 47-46. Hyannis beat WP 64-45 Sept. 13.
Silver Lake’s Journey Ericsson scored the winning touchdown on an 11-yard run with just under a minute remaining. Taking possession with 34 seconds left in the game, Hyannis drove down the field, but had three incomplete passes in the end zone to finish the game.
In Grand Island, the Wallace volleyball team, which beat the Broncos in subdistricts, fell in three sets, 8-25, 15-25, 17-25, to Bertrand in the opening round. Seeded first, Bertrand went on to lose Friday to eventual state runner-up Stuart, 25-20, 20-25, 18-25, 25-20, 17-15. It was Bertrand’s first loss on the season. The Vikings lost to Sterling, 19-25, 12-25, 21-25, in the consolation match.
In Class D1, another WP opponent, Brady, lost 25-16, 17-25, 12-25, 16-25 to Bruning-Davenport/Shickley in the first round. BDS lost in the finals.
Winter sports practices began Monday for Nebraska high schools.
