Bob Goings is one of those hardworking people who is very hard to get a hold of. Balancing owning a business and being Wauneta’s Fire Chief, keeps Bob on his toes. Goings started his own business, Advanced Automotive Parts and Repair, in May 1998.
Now, 15 years later, Advanced Automotive is a thriving business.
Goings’ first intention was to make something for himself, but his goal was also to be closer to his family.
“Both my parents and my late wife Mindi Goings were major contributions in starting this business,” Goings said.
There were no complications when he first made the decision to start up his business.
When he first started out, he was the only employee. Goings was located in the old B&D building west of the elevators. He was located there for the first three years of business.
Goings then moved into his current building located at 307 North Tecumseh.
Bob, along with three friends, moved him and all of his supplies and tools into the current location in one weekend.
When Bob first started out, the only thing that was offered was auto repairs. As his business has grown, Goings has added several new features to his business.
One of the new features at the time was offering auto parts. Goings decided to supply different auto parts for his customers’ convenience. Just two years ago, Bob started selling firearms and ammunition in his store.
“These two new things have been good for business,” says Goings.
Advanced Automotive’s current staff is Jolene Muths, Karen Allen, Katie Weigel, Chris Sandoval, Dan Rigel, and Mike Lovell.
Muths is the Parts Manager for the company, Allen is the Office Manager, Weigel restocks and delivers, Sandoval is the Shop Foreman, and Rigel and Lovell are Technicians.
Goings says that there has been no major injuries or malfunctions from the time he has started his business to today. “Hopefully that stays the same with the upcoming years,” he said.
Goings said,” I plan on staying in the area for a long time.”
Advanced Automotive has been a very beneficial business for the town of Wauneta. Jolene Muths, Parts Manager, said, “I love working here. There’s no other place I would want to work.”
A grateful Goings says, “I want to thank all of the local businesses that have been supportive throughout the years. Without them and my amazing customers, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I also want to thank my late wife, Mindi, without her and my parents, I would have had a lot more complications.”
Advanced Auto will hopefully be in business for many years to come, supplying Wauneta’s townspeople with different features such as a car alignment or a brand new gun.
