Ryan Starns was named Fireman of the Year at the annual Firemen’s Ball held Saturday, Nov. 2 at the American Legion Hall in Wauneta.

While announcing the award Shannon O’Neil said Starns was being given the award for all his contributions to the department.

The Halloween-themed event was attended by over 60 people, several in costumes.

Awards for best costume were given in four categories. Ryan Large won for his Lonesome Dove-themed costume in the single male category.

Donna Juelfs of Potter, Neb., won in the single female category for her doctor costume.

The best pair award went to Troy and Julie Hoskovec for their Publishers Clearing House costumes.

The award for the best group costume went to Dawn Doetker, Lindsay Anderson, Sunni Nordhausen, Crystal Yearous and Stacy Applegarth, who went as fingers.
