The Wauneta-Palisade Broncos’ football season wrapped up Friday in Bladen when the team took on Silver Lake.

Ranked first by the Omaha World Herald, Silver Lake took hold of the game right off the bat, returning the games opening kickoff for a touchdown.

After a three-and-out by the Broncos, Silver Lake scored in four plays.

Trailing 0-12, W-P drove to the Silver Lake three-yard line. Hayden Pollmann kept the drive alive, faking a punt and getting a pass off to James Martin downfield for a first down. A 24-yard pass from Wes Anderjaska to Pollmann moved the ball to the three-yard line where the drive stalled.

Following a third Silver Lake touchdown, W-P got on the board with a 39-yard touchdown pass from Chase Rathe to Pollmann.

Silver Lake went on to score four more touchdowns in the first half to take a 45-6 lead into halftime.

Playing with a running clock throughout the second half, Silver Lake scored on its opening possession.

The Broncos had four three-and-outs in five possessions in the second half.

Billy Straub, James Martin and Wes Anderjaska got most of the Broncos rushing attempts, though no stats were available for the Broncos.

Junior Seyler Monroe led Silver Lake with 163 yards rushing on seven carries. He also completed four-of-six passes for 89 yards.

Playoffs will begin Friday for the eight qualifing teams. Hyannis will face Arthur County, Cody-Kilgore will play Arcadia, Sioux County takes on Minatare and Silver Lake faces Elkhorn Valley.

Although the Broncos finished 1-7 on the season, the team’s tough schedule shows as six of the W-P’s eight opponents made the playoffs.
