Oct. 30, 2003

Tom and Marsha Cameron were Friday overnight guests of Rich, Amy and Jack Zakrajsek of Elkhorn and Saturday all went to the home of Paul and Cindy Sponheim and family in Ottumwa, Iowa, where they attended and celebrated Paul’s ordination and installation as assistant pastor of the Northgate Alliance Church on Sunday.

Arlan Wine was among performers of the McCook Barbershop chorus and Sweet Adalines who were guests of the Midland Pride Chorus at Arapahoe at their “Anything Goes” program.

Donnaline Kitt and Derek and Allison Sandman and Haylee were Sunday dinner guests of Larry and Anita Kitt for Donnaline’s Tuesday birthday.

Janet Egle and Donna Gockley were overnight guests of Donita and Dave Peterson in Lincoln. The ladies met with Sylvia Buffington and Anne Puls for the weekend, all 1964 WHS graduates to start making plans for their 40th class reunion in 2004.

Sunday dinner guests of Paul and Bonnie Yost were Jan Satterlee of Bartlesville, Okla., Roger and Alice Yost, Stacey and Shawn, Shanna and Chad Burkholder, Gavin and Jake of Julesburg, Colo., Peg Vlasin and Kristanis and Dwight and Wilma Egle to recognize Dwight’s birthday.

Two new members, Grant Dixon and Peter Barger, were inducted into the Frenchman Valley Chapter of National Honor Society at Wauneta-Palisade High School. Honor Society members include Sheridan Wright, Brad Licht, Joe Bartles, Cody Egle, Autumn Alberts, Janae Harris, Jenna Britten, Melissa Long, Betsy Anderjaska, Ashley Kitt and Staci Alberts.

October 27, 1988

Five Wauneta Volunteer firemen were recognized for their years of service to the department at an appreciation dinner. Honored were Garry Taylor and Bob Jones for 20 years; Lloyd Sinner, 30 years and 27 years as fire chief; Tom Miller and Bill Bischoff, 10 years.

The first reunion of the descendants of Henry E. and Margarethe (Buckholz) Fortkamp was held Sunday, Oct. 23 at the American Legion Hall with 148 relatvies and six guests.

Myrtle Hoff was guest of honor at a coffee for her 91st birthday which is Oct. 27. Mabel Scriven and Donna Applegarth hosted the event Saturday at the honoree’s home.

Lonnie Lewis is among candidates for Homecoming Royalty at Doane College in Crete. Coronation ceremonies will be Friday at Simon Field where a bonfire and pep rally will be held.

Oct. 31, 1963

Wauneta FFA team members, John Kitt, Junior Thompson, Ronald O’Neil and Marlus Prior, won first place honors in stubble mulch judging in state competition at Norfolk.

Don Polly was chosen as an outstanding Explorer Scout from this region. He represented the Tri-Trails Council at Lincoln last weekend.

Mr. and Mrs. Dick Nordhausen observed their silver wedding anniversary Sunday with a pot luck dinner at St. Paul’s with about 130 guests attending and at an open house later at the Nordhausen home with 75 attending.

Eldon Haarberg, his son Kent and a neighbor, Port Reed, all of Farmington, N.M., spent the weekend in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Haarberg, and spending time pheasant hunting.

Mrs. Allan Nordhausen entertained a group of ladies at a coffee last Thursday afternoon in honor of the birthday of Mrs. Goldie Parsons. Guests were Mrs. Parsons, Mrs. L. C. Binderup and Mrs. Ella Hopwood of McCook, Mrs. Mabel Taylor and Mrs. Ora Nordhausen.

Mr. and Mrs. Fern Nichols were hosts at a steak fry Tuesday night. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Starr of Newport Beach, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Nichols and sons and Mr. and Mrs. Orville Bressie. Mr. Starr showed pictures of their two week vacation spent on the ocean in their sailboat.

The Widger and Crowell relatives held a picnic at the Izaak Walton cabin at Enders Lake Sunday in honor of Mrs. Arba Baars of Washington state. Mrs. Baars is a sister of Mrs. Carl Widger and Mrs. Leo Crowell.

75 years ago this week

November 2, 1938

Mr. and Mrs. St. Clair Stock celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at their home in Wauneta last Sunday with an open house. Fifty friends and relatives called to extend their congratulations.

Mrs. Mike Gerih entertained the first graders and their teacher, Miss Nola Egle, at a surprise party Tuesday afternoon in honor of daughter, Josephine’s birthday.

Mrs. Anna Brannan and Bethine Wade were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Bodeman Monday, the day being Mrs. Brannan’s 81st birthday.

Leon Athey attended the midwest convention of the American Radio Relay league in Omaha Saturday with more than 400 amateurs registered. For the first time in this area the amateurs saw television in practical use under the direction of a Kansas City technician.

October 30, 1913

A few ladies met with Mrs. Art Nesmith Tuesday to do some sewing for Grandma Morrison who expects to leave for Kansas City Friday to spend the winter with her son Walter and family.

At the North Platte land drawing on Tuesday Mary Dowling of Palisade drew No. 45; O. M. Yant of Wauneta drew No. 543.

R. Moody and wife left for St. Joseph, Mo., Saturday where they will remain this winter.
