Wauneta Volunteer Firemen responded to a call Friday evening stating that a pickup was on fire in the lot by Bob’s Repair in south Wauneta.
Fire Chief Bob Goings stated the vehicle was not being worked on at the shop, but had pulled in there off the roadway.
Goings said when the WVFD arrived the pickup was engulfed in flames.
Members of the fire department made quick work of putting out the fire.
Bob’s Repair owner, Bob Jones, also a WVFD responder, said the pickup was owned by Frank Sowers.
Jones said Sowers told him he had just filled the pickup with fuel and pulled into the lot when the engine compartment started on fire.
Jones said his shop was not damaged in the blaze.
The Chase County Sheriff’s department also responded to the incident but were unavailable to comment.
