Five Chase County veterans who live in Imperial, Wauneta and Enders will serve as Grand Marshals at the 2013 Chase County Fair.
Appropriately, the parade theme is “Spirit of America.”
The parade is organized each year for the fair board by the Imperial Chamber of Commerce.
Jana Pribbeno, Chamber president, said the county takes pride in recognizing those who have served and sacrificed to defend freedom in the U.S.
“Our Grand Marshal veterans were chosen to represent each of the recent campaigns our country has been involved in,” she said.
Serving as the Grand Marshals and the wars or conflicts in which they served are Vincent Marvin, Imperial, World War II; Bob Fanning, Wauneta, Korean War; Dave Oxford, Enders, Vietnam; Pastor David Kahle, Imperial, Desert Storm; and Kerry Shinn, Imperial, Iraqi Freedom.
The parade will be held Saturday morning, Aug. 17, starting at 10:30 a.m. from the Imperial Manor concluding on south Broadway.
Categories will be the same as in the past—organizations, open class, religious, equestrian and business/professional.
Registration forms are going out this week to businesses in Imperial and Wauneta, and will also be available in early June at The Imperial Republican or Wauneta Breeze newspaper offices.
