The Wauneta-Palisade girls placed fourth and the boys sixth at the Sutherland Booster Club Invite Thursday, March 28.
Several athletes competed for the first time this season.
In her first meet of 2013, Abbie Fanning placed second in the 400 meter dash and third in the 800 meter run.
Sydnee Harchelroad, also running for the first time this season, was fourth in the 800 meter run with a personal record.
Emma Skelton placed second in the 300 meter hurdles.
Two relays placed for the Lady Broncos. The team of Leiauna Alberts, Fanning, Tailor Lee and Skelton was fourth in the 4x100. The 4x400 relay, Skelton, Lee, Alberts and Fanning, was sixth.
In field events, Tailor Lee was second in the shot put, Hannah Nordhausen was fourth in the discus and Leiauna Alberts was fifth in the long jump. Alberts broke the 14-foot mark for a personal record.
With five team members missing for the boys, Jacob Maris led the team with second and third place finishes in the 3,200 meter run and 1,600 meter run, respectively. Maris finished the 1,600 meter run less than a second behind the second place finisher, Hitchcock County’s Austin Blume.
Wes Anderjaska placed sixth in the 800 meter run, his time was a personal record.
The boys finished second in the 4x800 meter relay.
Coach Dawn Doetker said that even though the team is still working on getting into shape, they still had six personal records.
The team was at the Dundy County-Stratton Invite at Benkelman Tuesday and will travel to Grant Saturday for the E. Lee Todd Invite.
