The Wauneta-Palisade speech team placed 12th out of 27 teams Saturday at the Blue and Gold Speech Tournament.

Gothenburg won the event, placing someone in each event and finishing with 338 points. Gering was second and Scottsbluff third.

For the third consecutive meet, the OID team of Cassidy Rathe, Cameo Rector, Ellie Lee, Nicole Strand and Leiauna Alberts placed with their performance of “The Zucchini Crusade” by Margie Bell. “The Zucchini Crusade” chronicles Little Red’s “quest to deliver her secret recipe zucchini bread through the woods to her dear old granny.”

In seventh place out of 31 teams after the preliminary round, the team advanced to Honors finals and finished 12th.

Landon Jutten and Cody Hicks placed in the Duet Acting category.

Sitting in a four-way tie for second after the preliminary round, the pair’s performance as redneck goat herders whose stock is disappearing earned them fourth place in the Champion division.

Also performing, but not placing, were Tom McGraw, informative speaking; Rector, Humorous Prose; Jutten, Emtertainment; and Rathe, serious prose.
