There is still time to register for water seminars throughout the Republican Basin that will focus on water management during dry years.
The free seminars will be held Feb. 11 at the Chase County Fairgrounds in Imperial; Feb. 12 at the Red Willow County Fairgrounds in McCook; and Feb. 13 at the Ag Center in Holdrege. The meetings will begin at 10 a.m. MST in Imperial and 10 a.m. CST in McCook and Holdrege.
The seminars are being sponsored by University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension, Dekalb, and the Natural Resources Districts in the Republican Basin. Lunch will be provided.
To register for the Imperial meeting, call the Upper Republican NRD at 308-882-5173. For the meeting in McCook, call the Middle Republican NRD office at 308-367-4281. And to register for the meeting in Holdrege, call either the Lower Republican NRD at 308-928-2182, or Tri-Basin NRD at 308-995-6688.
Last summer was one of the driest seasons on record, and coupled with limited off-season precipitation to rebuild soil-moisture levels, growers are facing challenging decisions. Speakers will discuss methods to maximize corn and soybean production in dry years. The latest UNL research and industry technology on water efficiency techniques and tools will be discussed.
And NRD managers will forecast opportunities and challenges related to water regulations and projects in their regions.
To access a flier that provides more information, go to the Upper Republican NRD website at www.urnrd.org or call Nate Jenkins at 308-882-5173.
