Wauneta-Palisade speech team kicks off season PDF Print E-mail

After having its first meeting of the season canceled due to weather, the Wauneta-Palisade speech team traveled to Grant Saturday for the Perkins County Invitational Speech Meet.

Donald Hunt, Cody Hicks, Landon Jutten, Nicole Strand, Christi Christner, Leiauna Alberts, Tom McGraw, Cameo Rector and Ellie Lee made the trip with head coach Liz Noler and assistant coach Teresa Hayes.

In his first meet ever for W-P, McGraw was second in the Informative category and was the Top Novice in the category.

The Oral Interpretation of Drama team placed third. Team members were Christner, Alberts, Lee, Strand and Rector.

W-P placed sixth out of 18 teams at the meet. Ogallala, Perkins County and North Platte St. Pat’s finished first, second and third, respectively. Paxton was fourth and Wallace fifth.

Performing, but not placing, were Jutten and Hicks in Duet Acting, Christner in Serious Prose, Hunt in Humorous Prose and Hicks in the Extemporaneous division.

The speech season will continue throughout the month of February. The team will travel to Sutherland Saturday, then North Platte on Feb. 9, Ogallala Feb. 16 and McCook Feb. 23. Meets continue into March with Districts being held in Wauneta March 14.
