Another week, another split for the Wauneta-Palisade boys basketball team. After losing to Hitchcock County and beating Southwest two weeks ago, the Broncos lost to Perkins County Friday night and beat Garden County Saturday.

Traveling to Grant, the Broncos fell behind 9-16 at the end of the first quarter. Logan Bischoff got the Broncos on the board with a basket followed by a three-pointer by Hayden Pollmann. Baskets by Bischoff and Jack McGraw rounded out W-P scoring in the first quarter, with the Broncos down 9-16. Perkins County’s Elliot Carlson hit a late three-pointer to open up the seven-point lead.

W-P narrowed the gap slightly in the second quarter. Bischoff added four more points and Connor Kayton and Wes Anderjaska both got on the board, as the Broncos headed into halftime down by five, 17-22.

Behind five points by Anderjaska and six from Pollmann the Broncos cut into the Perkins County lead during the third quarter with the score at 33-35 heading into the fourth.

Down the stretch, the Broncos could only manage three-point baskets by Kayton and Pollmann to go with one free throw each from McGraw, Bischoff and Kayton.

Outscored 12-9 in the fourth, the Broncos lost 47-42.

Bischoff and Pollmann led the Broncos with 12 points each.

Anderjaska added seven points, Kayton six and McGraw five.

Any frustration the Broncos felt over the loss was taken out on Garden County the next night at home.

W-P came out firing against the undersized Eagles squad.

Winning the tip, Bischoff immediately scored for the Broncos.

Garden County answered with a three-pointer and saw Pollmann hit one of his own at the other end. Another three gave the Eagles its last lead of the game, 6-5, with 5:30 left in the first.

The Broncos went on an 11-3 run behind a Kayton three-pointer off an inbounds pass from McGraw, a bucket by Pollmann and three baskets by Bischoff, including a layup at the buzzer.

The offense continued to hit on all cylinders in the second quarter.

After Garden County scored on its first possession, Bischoff went back to work, with a three point play. Following another three by Pollmann, Bischoff added an offensive rebound and basket to his total.

Leading 24-11, Pollmann hit his third three-pointer of the game and Bischoff added four more points as the Broncos took a 37-18 lead into half.

The Broncos kept the pedal down in the third quarter. Bischoff led the way with 11 more points on his way to 26 in the contest.

Also in the third, Pollmann added two more to his double digit total of 15 points.

The Broncos cruised into the fourth quarter with a 60-24 lead.

Weylin Davis added five of his seven points in the fourth and McGraw hit two free throws to give him six points in the game. Chase Rathe added a three-pointer to give the Broncos the 70-38 win.

Katyon added nine points in the win and Anderjaska score four.

Now 7-5, W-P will host unbeaten Paxton Thursday. Paxton has blown through its competition so far this year, including a 67-30 defeat of Brady.

The Broncos will follow up the Paxton game by hosting the first round of the RPAC tournament on Saturday when it takes on Dundy County-Stratton (8-5) in the evening’s final game.

Dundy County-Stratton has beaten Perkins County, 48-45, and lost to Hitchcock County, 56-68.
