After wrestling to a 5-6 record over the first two months of the season in the 170 lb. weight bracket, Gage Crowell dropped down to the 160 lb. weight class Saturday at the Dundy County-Stratton Invite.
Crowell went 4-1 on the day with his only loss coming to St. Francis’ Mikey Leibbrandt, a 2012 state qualifier in Kansas.
Crowell said it’s nice finally getting to wrestle at 160, going from “one of the smaller wrestlers at 170 pounds to one of the bigger at 160 pounds.”
“This was a good tournament for Gage to get a lot of matches and experience,” said Coach Chad Cochran.
“Gage wrestled really hard and he had a couple of tough matches and was able to come out on top.”
Now 9-7, Crowell will wrestle at Chase County Saturday.
Crowell over Lane Hobrock, St. Francis JV; Pin 5:27.
Crowell over Wyatt Schutte, Cozad JV; Pin 0:31.
Crowell over Trinity Lutz, DCS; Pin 0:23.
Mikey Leibbrandt, St. Francis, Kan., over Crowell; Pin 0:27.
Crowell over Martin, Stratton Colo.; TF 17-2.
