The holiday season is upon us and Wauneta and Palisade are gearing up for their annual Christmas celebrations.
Christmas Kickoff tonight in Wauneta The Wauneta Chamber of Commerce is hosting their annual Christmas Kickoff tonight, Thursday, Nov. 29 at the Wauneta American Legion Hall. The festivites will begin at 5 p.m. MT. The highlight of the evening is a chili cookoff contest where chamber members will compete for the honor of the best pot of chili. Kathy and Dave Kerchal and Kip and Terry Engell representing The HomeTown Agency will defend their titles from last year. The Kerchals were named People’s Choice winners, a title they have had since the contest’s inception the year prior. The Engells took the judged category away from the Kerchals last year. New this year will be a Christmas tree decorating contest. Chamber members will decorate trees prior to the beginning of the event. The trees will then be judged by the public at the kickoff. The annual Chamber Christmas drawings will be handled a little differently this year. This year people can sign up for the various Christmas drawings at each business. The winners of each individual drawing will be announced on Santa Saturday, Dec. 15. Chamber organizers noted this is an improvement to the previous years’ drawings because people will be eligible to win multiple prizes. Their number of entries are limited only by the number of times Chamber businesses are visited.
