Last Thursday, Oct. 18 teachers at Wauneta-Palisade Public Schools spent the day learning about the Write Tools.
According to W-P Superintendent Randy Geier, “Providing quality professional development days for our teachers improves students’ learning experiences.”
The Write Tools is a professional development company which “equips teachers with comprehensive, progressive and research-based strategies to write with rich language and well-developed thoughts,” according to the company website.
During the day W-P teachers examined the relationship between reading and writing.
Training was provided by Theresa Riege from the Write Tools company.
After the training local teachers are better equipped with some of the latest strategies in education to help improve student reading and writing skills.
According to the Write Tools website the curriculum enables teachers to differentiate instruction for all levels of learners.
The session last Thursday was Riege’s fourth session with W-P staff members. Her initial visit was last September. The three follow-up sessions since have given teachers additional information and approaches to improve these ever-important skills, said Geier.
“I was very impressed with Theresa Riege. The instructional strategies she reinforced were very good,” said Geier.
He went on to say, “I am planning to have Theresa return and visit our teachers’ classrooms to offer additional assistance.”
