|Wauneta Co-op Oil holds 82nd Annual Meeting|

At the 82nd Annual Wauneta Co-op Oil Annual Meeting manager Kent Buffington thanked employees for their service to Co-op patrons. Forty-year employee Harold “Peco” Anderson, who retired last November, was given a watch as a thanks for his dedicated service throughout the years.

Wauneta Co-op Oil Company hosted their 82nd Annual Meeting on Saturday, Oct. 6. Approximately 70 patrons attended the meeting.
The meeting kicked off with a meal catered by John Johnston. The meal included roast beef, mashed potatoes, corn and a dessert.
After the meal board chairman Joe Barger called the annual meeting to order.
Kevin Kerchal, board secretary and treasurer, read the audit report. The balance sheets for the organization showed total assets at $1,725,932 for 2012 compared to $1,655,940 for 2011. Total liabilities and members’ equity equaled assets for both years.
Board member changes
At the meeting Wayne Bartels announced his retirement from the Wauneta Co-op Oil board of directors. Bartels has served on the board for 36 years.
Jed Doetker was voted onto the board to replace Bartels’ spot.
During the meeting manager Kent Buffington introduced company employees from the Wauneta and Palisade stations. Employees include:
Buffington’s staff introductions also included a special thank you to Harold “Peco” Anderson for his 40 years of service at Wauneta Co-op Oil.
As a token of their thanks, Buffington presented Anderson with a watch. The back of the watch was engraved with a message, “Peco, 40 years Co-op Oil.”
Anderson said he remembers his years at Wauneta Co-op Oil fondly.
“The Wauneta Co-op Oil company in Wauneta and Palisade is a wonderful, wonderful place,” said Anderson.
He went on to say, “I had some wonderful patrons.”
Anderson’s tenure at Wauneta Co-op Oil
Anderson started at Wauneta Co-op Oil in 1971. He worked in the shop until 1975 when he went to the Palisade station to serve as branch manager. Two years later, Anderson returned to the Wauneta station to work as shop manager.
When his brother, Ted Anderson, retired and then assistant manager Richard Greeley moved to manager Anderson took over as assistant manager.
After Greeley retired Anderson left Wauneta Co-op Oil for three short months. He then returned to the company and worked under Wyatt Croft for ten years.
Anderson spent his last 10 years before retirement as manager. He retired from the company on Nov. 21, 2011.
