The Wauneta-Palisade volleyball team won its 10th match Thursday night. It is the first time the Lady Broncos reached double digit wins since the 11-11 2009 season.

The Lady Broncos came out with a new look against Medicine Valley (11-8). Coach Michelle Harchelroad moved the rotation forward three places so Sydnee Harchelroad started each game serving rather than Emma Skelton.

The move worked well as Wauneta-Palisade never trailed in the game. Brianna Einspahr closed out the 25-16 win by serving seven straight points. The Lady Broncos picked up kills during the run from Brooklyn Nordhausen, Harchelroad and Abbie Fanning to go with aces by Einspahr.

The Lady Raiders came out fired up in the second set and opened up a 14-point lead over the hosts. Down 10-24, Wauneta-Palisade rattled off five points before siding out to end the game.

Coach Harchelroad said she thought the way they finished the second set was very important for how the team started the third set.

With the momentum, Wauneta-Palisade opened up a 6-1 lead early in set three. Medicine Valley made its own run and kept the score close throughout the match. With the score 20-19, the Lady Broncos capitalized on two attack errors and a service error to pick up a 25-20 win.

In the huddle prior to the fourth set, Coach Harchelroad told her team to think about playing consistently and smart.

Unfortunately the Lady Raiders opened up a 6-1 lead early before Wauneta-Palisade tied the game at six with Abbie Fanning serving. Medicine Valley pulled ahead by four, but after tying the game at 12 the Lady Broncos never trailed again, winning 25-20.

“The girls need to see the importance of keeping the ball in play and letting the other team make the errors,” said coach Harchelroad. “Sometimes they want to crush the ball every play when they need to look for holes and play smart volleyball.”
