The Wauneta Breeze

In a short meeting Monday night the Wauneta-Palisade school board accepted the bid of Pivot Electic to prepare the Wauneta and Palisade Attendance Centers for heating and air conditioning units.

Pivot Electric’s bid is for $40,250 worth of improvements to the Wauneta building and $28,850 to the Palisade building.

The heating and AC units were ordered last week and are expected at Snell Services in North Platte any time.

Pivot Electric will begin work next week and expects the job to take three to four weeks. Work can begin in the classrooms first so Snell will be able to install the units and then Pivot will move to the outside.

Power will need to be off in each school for a day. Pivot Electric said they would be willing to work on a weekend or the school board said work could be done October first or second during teacher work days.

The school board is optimistic the new units will take some of the pressure off the boiler in the Palisade building.

Discussion also included a teacher request of a moving stipend for those teachers who moved their classrooms to Palisade. The board mentioned several teachers in the past who have moved classrooms or switched buildings without any compensation.

The board also cited the many volunteers who stepped up and the equipment and manpower donated by Harchelroad Motors as reasons to decline the request.

Graduation was set for Saturday, May 11, at 10:00 a.m. MT/11:00 CT with the last day of school for non-seniors being May 16.

Superintendent Randy Geier informed the board on the hiring of Rita Crose for the school nurse position. Crose has recently moved back to the area to be closer to family and will be available to help with the Lions Club health screenings today.

The meeting wrapped up with the announcement that leaks on the second and third floors of the Wauneta Attendance Center and by the locker rooms of the same building will be fixed soon by Weather Craft.
